sleepless tuesday

Yesterday Barnard invited me to watch the match between Brazil v.s Ghana and France v.s Spain at FRIDAYs(TGIF). But instead of spending 450 Pesos at TGIF, we watched the games at the Blue Eagle Gym and spent 150 Pesos for the ticket. I heard that there's a spot at Greenbelt that shows live World Cup matches for free. I'm not sure though, but I think you'll only have to pay for the foods and drinks they serve. I still have to find it out. I met Barnard's high school friend Ash and her younger brother. Both of them are studying at U.P. Diliman. So, there were four of us who watched the game at the gym. The Brazil and Ghana match started at 11pm and ended around 1am. The next match between France ang at Spain started 3am. Then we decided to grab a bite at Mcdonalds and and wait there until 2am and go back, so we could watch some highlights before the France and Spain match begins. Brazil won 3- nil and France by 3-1. I don't mind if it was shown here so early in the morning. What's important is that I enjoyed it. I was able to go home at around 6am, took a bath and went straight to school to review for a test. I'm so excited to watch another match.

IOTA 1 - 0 THESIS PANELIST

There's NO time to celebrate. Well, I guess a few drinks and cheers just to celebrate the success isn't bad enough. The panelists didn't say it directly but they gave us a hint that the proposal was approved when they told us to improve some parts of Chapter 1 of our thesis proposal. I feel sorry to those who's thesis proposal was rejected. I just hope that they have a back-up plan. As for our group, we have to make some experiments, quantify our assumptions, study the manual process and the design, and canvas for parts. There's a lot to do, time to get busy.

Road to Thesis Defense

Our Thesis: A Design of a Programmable Semi-Automatic Spot Welding Machine with a Single Axis Traversing Table/Jig

Things to do: Make a Thesis Defense presentation
Medium: Flash or PowerPoint

The defense is scheduled this coming Friday and we weren't given any instructions yet on what to put on our presentation. Isn't that great huh.
This morning, Team Iota (my thesis group) had a meeting at Eng walk. We discussed about the possible questions the panelists might ask as. So, we generated this list of questions and planned to practice answering them on our mock thesis defense proposal. We found some flaws in our thesis..most of them in the technical part. Our next meeting will be tomorrow. We only get to meet during lunch breaks.

Good luck IOTA!!! We can do this!

..Now back to the presentation.

Amazing Numerology To Predict The 2OO6 FIFA World Cup Winner

(You don't have to buy this theory)
Brazil won the world cup in 1994. Before that, he had won this title for the last time in 1970. If you add up:

1970 + 1994 = 3964

Argentina won the world cup for the last time in 1986. Before that only in 1978. And:

1978 + 1986 = 3964

Germany, though, won the world cup in 1990. Before that, Germany won in 1974. Look:

1990 + 1974 = 3964

This could lead us to guess the winner of the World Cup in 2002, since it should be the winner of the 1962 World Cup. In fact:

3964 - 2002 = 1962

And Brazil won the world cup in 1962! And, in fact, Brazil won the 2002 World Cup.
This numerology seems to work. And now, who would be the winner of the 2006 World Cup? Let’s see:

3964 - 2006 = 1958

And who won in 1958? Oh, Brazil did!!!

World Cup fever

Yay! 2006 World Cup has started! If you are not aware that we are in the middle of the World Cup, you must be living under a rock! Even here in the Philippines, where soccer is far from the most popular sport, you'll find people (like me) suddenly claiming national heritages you never realized they had - especially if "their" team/teams happens to be winning. So far, the teams that I've been cheering for has been doing good for the first week of the event.

Unfortunately, I haven't watched a game. I just got a glimpse of one match between Potugal and Iran because my uncle was watching a stupid wrestling show. The cable TV we have wont give us live telecast of the game sometimes even replays. Last week, I planned to watch the opening even if it was a replay. What was on the sports channel was a boring golf game. I waited for 1:00am just for nothing. So, I called the cable TV and the operator told me to subscribe for a paperview. For 6,000 pesos I could enjoy watching the game for the entire season. Come on! That's just not practical. Despicable act! Pwe! Once every four years of World Cup, they sure know how to make money. If only I knew this would happen, I should have switched to Destiny. So, I call all SkyFlakes subscribers and especially the Football fans, to BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT!!! So, who's with me? err..Nobody? OK, well mabye not.. I just hope that our country could compete on the next World Cup.

Buddy system

Finally, someone who I could talk to in school about the World Cup. In high school, during the 2002 World Cup season in Korea and Japan, I was the only guy in our class who was watching the game. I suppose therea were also few from our class and from the others, but I don't talk to them about the matches. So anyway, Barnard (World Cup buddy, who created a fantasy league at Yahoo and invited me to join, but I still haven't joined his league) found out that Mandarin Oriental (Makati) and Fridays is showing World Cup games live and uncut! The drawback, The fee costs 350 pesos. It's quite expensive though, but it's consumable... We planned to watch the finals in Fridays, Robinson's Malate. Got to start saving! I have a lot to spend (ouch) this term...
